Wednesbury High Street Heritage Action Zone

Wednesbury High Street Heritage Action Zone

Following the loss of the Project Officer, Berrys were appointed by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council to review their scheme and ways of working to ensure the successful delivery of their Wednesbury High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) project. The HSHAZ scheme is an initiative funded by Historic England to restore, enhance and celebrate the historic town centre.

How We Approached The Project

Berrys became the ‘face’ of the grant and got to know the people of Wednesbury; understanding how the grant could support them by understanding the blockers and opportunities. After our appointment in July 2022, the project issued five Stage One grant offers which led on to Stage Two grant applications and a stand out project on the corner of Market Square.

How We Achieved The Project

Our experience in managing heritage-led regeneration projects led to a successful project and the Council going on to appoint us and our architectural team (link) to deliver a funded advertisement grant scheme for the conservation area to keep up momentum following the HSHAZ. This scheme is now in progress.
