Following the loss of the Project Officer, Berrys were appointed to support Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to deliver their Hinckley <ahref=”https://berrys.uk.com/news/heritage-and-conservation/regenerating-historic-high-streets-through-heritage-action-zones/”>High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) scheme. The HSAZ scheme is an initiative funded by Historic England to secure lasting improvements to historic high streets and the communities who use them.
Working alongside the Conservation Team we first reviewed priorities to help strategically steer the project. Berrys regularly supported updating the Delivery Plan, by way of a progress report and budget updates, as well as feeding into a shared grant tracker to update on a weekly basis. We were involved in drafting Historic England referrals as part of grant offers and created a useful flow chart to help internal project team members and external grant applicants understand the process.
We reviewed tenders and specifications, checked works on site and negotiated variations to works when problems arose. Our aim was to ensure quality was not reduced whilst the tight timescales of the grant were met and balancing the needs of the business owners under the pressures of the high street economy.
Using her heritage-led regeneration skills our Head of Heritage & Conservation successfully supported and advised the council in delivering these time-critical projects. Work has now been completed on some key buildings involved in the Hinckley HSAZ scheme.
