Set on the eastern edge of Shrewsbury, The Old Dairy is an alluring barn conversion with a modern twist that allows the dwelling to boast incredible views of Haughmond Hill.
Originally two small individual barns, with numerous ramshackle dilapidated lean to sheds and odd shaped extensions, this project has finally realised the potential that was previously lying dormant. The removal of the existing extensions in conjunction with a clever modern extension between the two barns has discovered a new relationship and connectivity through a central hub that was once an overshadowed courtyard.
The central hub connects and provides a functional flow for the homeowner and makes use of a beautiful roof lantern and large floor to ceiling bi fold doors for a source of natural light. These bi fold doors also double up as a seamless transition between the house and garden whilst providing a viewing platform across the magnificent countryside and Haughmond Hill – one of the focus areas of the design brief.
The juxtaposition of design styles really works with this conversion, creating a synergy that allows for the traditional elements and details to attract the necessary attention whilst creating a contemporary open plan living environment. The culmination of this design style creating a conversion that flawlessly embeds itself within its countryside environs.
