Ryelands Farm.

Ryelands Farm.

Project Overview

Our client had got hold of several modern, steel-framed barns that were full of potential. They wanted to transform these Class Q buildings into 4 family homes, making the most of their impressive character.

The detached barns were all different shapes and sizes, and the central one was actually a traditional brick-built barn with a steel-framed extension. Our client asked us to come up with a design that would transform these barns into homes, keeping as much of the existing structures as possible.

When coming up with a design, we had to bear in mind the planning restrictions involved with Class Q buildings. Some of the buildings also needed more care than others, and we knew that several would need to be demolished if we were going to maximise the development opportunity.

A careful selection of existing and new materials helps tie all the buildings together and form a relationship between them. This means that although the barns are all different sizes and styles, there will be some level of consistency.

The scheme has been approved, and will provide 4 new family homes with internal layouts designed to suit modern-day living. They will all have an open plan kitchen, dining and living spaces, with bi-fold doors that open onto a patio space.
