Independent, Impartial, Ongoing Advisor For A Family Farming Partnership.

We were approached by a farming family who were already farming as a partnership. They were looking for a someone to advise on all aspects of their business including attending partnership meetings. They wanted someone who would be independent to their business and help navigate and mediate the right way forward given the different directions the family members want to take.

How We Approached The Project

Whilst this service is difficult to put a title on, it is one we do for many of our clients in Business Land Use and Finance. We of course can advise on the financial side of your business, but the human side of family businesses can be very diverse and an independent intermediary can have huge benefits.

We were able to meet independently with family members to allow them to give their views on how they wanted the business to develop and the direction they want to take. Speaking to people independently allows a non-judgemental environment to give individuals time and freedom to give their opinions.

How We Achieved The Project

We then organised a family partnership meeting using a formal agenda to go through all of the issues the individuals had raised. The discussion was lively and incredibly informative and allowed the family to make plans to go forward as a team. Our independent input meant that the members spoke with respect and stopped any discussions getting heated. We were able to also give our opinion on ideas and use our experience of things that may or may not work given their farming set up.

Our relationship with the clients has grown and strengthened and we have become a ‘key man’ within their farming business. Alongside our usual advice, we attend all partnership meetings and assist their other professional advisors including accountants and solicitors where necessary. We are the people that they call when they need assistance with something small, or to seek advice with something big.
