The site was chosen for housing after the Neighbourhood Development Plan noticed that it falls within the village’s settlement boundary. Its southern boundary faces a courtyard surrounded by traditional barns, which are all being converted into homes. Everywhere else lies open countryside, with a brook and access path cutting through.
We put together some detailed design proposals, and after discussing the project with the local council, we all agreed that the scheme should respond to the neighbouring barn conversions.
We carefully planned out the location, size and orientation of the development. This meant we could make sure the new builds complement and extend the existing courtyard next door. The palette of materials we chose also creates a balance with the surrounding barn conversions, giving the new properties a rural feel.
The overall design took a contemporary approach to a traditional style, creating a mixture of family homes perfect for modern-day living.
