Lingen Nursery.

Lingen Nursery.

Project Overview

Following the sale a former nursery site by Berrys in a small rural village location, we were approached by the client to secure planning permission for a new housing development. Berrys provided both planning and architectural services.

The site was within the settlement boundary and had been allocated for housing within the local neighbourhood development plan. However, the site was also located within a conservation area so a sensitive approach was required that was influenced by its surrounding context and the details contained within the descriptive NDP. We initiated early discussions with the local planning authority and conservation team through a pre-application submission where a design approach was agreed.

The design concept is based on a courtyard approach with a mixture of detached, linked detached and semi detached units. Materiality was influenced by the local vernacular which is a mix of stone, brick and timber cladding. The form for each unit has a contemporary rustic appearance with key features taken from the conservation area appraisal.
