Redevelopment of Brook Vessons Farm.

Redevelopment of Brook Vessons Farm.

The client approached Berrys with a vision to extensively redevelop their farmstead. The objective was to create a superior, high quality, sustainable development set within the Shropshire Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The farm located in Habberley, Shropshire is situated in open countryside and therefore there were several complex planning considerations to overcome.

The proposals included the demolition and subsequent construction of a new primary dwelling, demolition of agricultural buildings, conversion of a cowshed to residential use, reuse of a granary building, erection of a log store and open sided garage and the erection of a glass house along with bat loft. The proposals also included the creation of a large drainage pond and extensive landscaping.

How We Approached The Project

Initially we provided advice on the suitability of the proposals in line with planning policy requirements. We then steered the project through the planning process, co-ordinating specialist consultants to ensure we obtained all details necessary to support the application. Working in close contact with the planning case officer and Studio Bark architects throughout.

How We Achieved The Project

We assembled a robust planning application including a detailed supporting statement to ensure all relevant planning policies had been addressed. These considerations included, but were not limited to AONB, protected species, heritage, sustainability and design quality.

Sustainability and high-quality design were at the forefront of the redevelopment. Working in partnership with Studio Bark we ensured the reuse of materials and buildings were carefully considered.

The overall outstanding final design will significantly improve the look of the farm in the context of the AONB. Through careful planning the client’s vision has been achieved and planning permission has been granted.
