Section 278 Works Design – Shropshire.

Berrys have been supporting a local developer with the planning for a village extension scheme. Various local highway improvements were required to support the development, so Berrys provided civil engineering services to provide the require ‘s278’ agreement highway technical design package.

The design within the public highway covered the following:

Re-alignment of footway to remove bus stop lay-by and relocate bus stop within the main carriageway link.

Creation footway links and crossings to connect the village to the bus stop and other parts of the village.

Extension of 30mph extent and removal of dated ‘speed calming’ features such as the lined dragons teeth.

Traffic calming and speed management was a critical consideration in the design, so the design included a number of measures to influence the behaviours of drivers.

Site Challenges

The main challenge with the site was the complex history and amount stakeholders’ requirements for the site. This site had four previous planning submissions, with varying highway improvements dated back to 2014.

What We Did

Berrys consulted with the wider design team and the local parish council to ensure that the design package met with wider stakeholder requirements, as well as meeting the local highway authority design specifications.
