Berrys were originally appointed as the planning consultants and architects for the redevelopment of some outbuildings at a private home in Shropshire. Having successfully secured planning permission for the erection of a replacement garage and works to facilitate the conversion of the existing glasshouse our heritage consultants were instructed to produce a Building Record Survey.
The walled kitchen garden and glass houses were identified as non-designated heritage assets within the Shropshire Historic Environment Record. This resulted in a condition within the planning permission to conduct a historic building survey and we worked closely with the Local Planning Authority to identify what level of survey was required.
To complete the survey, historic research was undertaken to identify areas that were historically significant prior to any alterations. A full photographic survey was then completed to record each element of the building, documenting the historic materials, size, and position of the building on the site.
The Building Record Survey was submitted to the Local Planning Authority and Shropshire’s Historic Environment Record to be made publicly available for future research. Receipt of the record survey also ensured the discharge of the planning condition allowing works to proceed.
