The Old Hay Barn.

The Old Hay Barn.

Project Overview

The Old Hay Barn sits next to a previous barn conversion that was completed by Berrys, on the eastern edge of Shrewsbury. An exemplar scheme showcasing the possibilities of agricultural barn conversions; Berrys were appointed on this project post planning for a redesign, resulting in this stunning conversion.

The collaborative relationship between ourselves and our client allowed us to review material selections and different design ideas, regarding layout and functional flow, throughout the design process in a 3d model prior to any works starting on site.

As a result, the barn is quite literally a design vision brought to life with beautiful interior design and wonderful finishing touches completed by our client. Utilising a stunning double height space through the middle of the home as the heart, the resulting layout and form alongside the interior detailing make this conversion a perfect mixture of contemporary styling and agricultural aesthetic.

The large, glazed openings allow for a connection with nature via seamless transition to the garden that provides exquisite views of Haughmond Hill. The charred thermally modified timber cladding ensures that the barn sits comfortably within the rural local vernacular, whilst the standing seam roof doubles it purposes to provide a clue to the agricultural past life as well as providing a modern, clean roof line.

Conclusively, both the internal alterations and exterior detailing aid the provision of an agricultural aesthetic that combines with modern sleek details, such as deep window and door reveals, to yield a unique and charming family home.
