Planning Permission Secured for the Change of Use and Conversion of a Traditional Barn
Berrys has secured planning permission for the repair, refurbishment, alterations, change of use and conversion of a traditional brick and stone agricultural barn to provide a 5 bedroom family-sized detached dwelling and associated works near Pattishall, Northamptonshire. The conversion project to provide a large new dwelling over two storeys, and located in a highly desirable area of Northamptonshire, will secure the long-term future of a traditional agricultural building in the countryside.
Berrys multi-disciplinary approach, involving our planning and architectural teams, delivered a valuable planning permission for the change of use and conversion works.
As with many barn conversion projects, the design of the conversion was of paramount importance. Berrys architectural team gave careful consideration to the design of the proposed dwelling to ensure that the agricultural character and appearance of the building was retained as much as possible. Moreover, during the preparation of the application, evidence of bats and a bat roost were found within the building. The final approved scheme also includes mitigation and compensatory measures including provision of a dedicated bat loft. Ian Taylor, Senior Planning Consultant at Berrys, notes “whilst government and local planning policy is geared towards the retention and re-use of traditional agricultural buildings, such schemes are often constrained by numerous planning issues such as design and ecology. In view of the constraints posed by this particular site, we were particularly pleased to be able to secure planning permission in this instance.”
