Blueberry Barn.

Project Overview

Blueberry Barn sits about a mile to the southwest of Maidwell village off a rural track.  The road gives access to Dale Farm, Mill Farm and culminates at a group of buildings of which Blueberry Barn is one.

The barn has been part of Dale Farm Estate for many years and is used for various agricultural storage uses as well as in the past a farm office and welfare space for farm workers. Dale Farm Estate covers approximately 380ha and the farming unit is predominately arable.

Under Class Q planning regulations the barn’s robust steel frame, the partially clad timber sleepers with Yorkshire boarding above will be retained as part of the new proposal to create a 4 bedroom dwelling.

The design and external appearance of the building has been carefully considered with the addition of a number of new openings  proposed to increase the natural light into the spaces. The retention of the existing opening of the barn doors is to benefit from a lourved shading device to enhance the large open plan living space.

The proposed mezzanine first floor is being introduced within the secondary framing structure to be hung from the structure of the steel roof and partially cantilever over the open plan space below. A new focal window is proposed at first floor level to give light to the principal master bedroom.
