Planning Statistics

The UK saw a huge fall in the level of planning enforcement notices issued by local authorities this quarter, below 3,000 in 2020/2021 for the first time with only 2,996 notices issued. This is a drop of just under a quarter compared to that of the previous year, the lowest figures since 1997 that have been recorded. Likely due to pandemic restrictions but also linked to a more longer-term trend of decreased enforcement action since.

Records published by the Planning Inspectorate show a new monthly high recorded in open appeal case numbers across the country, as decisions slump by 15%. The cases open at the end of July were at its highest point in the last 12 months, recorded at 11,982. A rise in 261 cases compared to that of 11,721 recorded in May.
